Snarl - Demo

DEMO cover art
From: California
Genre: Hardcore

Track List
1. Intro
2. Waste
3. Tear You Apart
4. Rose

Found this while browsing Bandcamp recently and really dug it. Realized later on that Parker from The Story So Far does everything except drums on this. Half the people that read this will get way too excited, or will ignore it all together. Don't be fooled though, this is one of the grooviest things to come out all year. Whether the name "Parker Cannon" excites you or forces a groan out of you, this is definitely worth at least a listen.

The sudden resurgence of modern pop-punk bands doing 90's  emo-grunge (or as they so accurately describe it 'Gloom Rock') has been really hit-or-miss with me. A ton of bands are doing it, and a bunch of them just miss the mark. That being said, I Was Afraid's "No Love" ended up being one of my favorite releases of 2013.
They aren't as crisp and produced as some of the bands spearheading the genre like Basement and Superheaven, and I like that. It adds a more sincere tone to the record that I find lot of bands in the emo genre lack. The heavy reverb spread across the 8 tracks adds to the guitar grooves in a way that make you feel as if you're drifting in and out of sleep on a somber, rainy weekend morning (ex: Sway). The transition between shouted and near-whispered vocals isn't a new concept, but IWA does have a firm grasp on how to do it well. (ex: Room). The record is short enough that there generally isn't any filler, which is a bonus. All in all, this was a good record that I personally gave many well deserved plays. "I just want to share my disease.
So you can feel like me.
So you feel weak
like me.

I'll see you in my sleep
Where I can breath.
Where nothing means anything.

I'm so tired. I'm worn out.
Basking in the light of my phone screen's glow
I know that I'm alone.

I just want to share my disease."

Nigh - S/T Demo + Dominion In Judgement (Single)

From: Dallas, Texas
Genre: Death Metal / Hardcore / Thrash

Track List
1. Forbearer
2. The Sightless Herd
3. Author Of Strife
-
1. Dominion In Judgement

THE ALMIGHTY NIGH.
Texas has been a hotbed for some of the tightest bands in hardcore the past few years and this band is absolutely no exception. Both their S/T Demo and "Dominion In Judgement" are around two years old, but still entirely deserving of attention. Now, while Nigh went silent for about a year, good news is that they spent some time recording this summer. A couple new tracks are expected to be out soon, so be on the look out (In the hopes that they don't disappear again).

Bankrobber - If God Is Love Then Hate Is Real

From: Denver, Colorado
 Genre: Hardcore / Metal

Tracklist
1. Extinction
2. Decay
3. Silence
4. Shattered
5. Resist
6. Nothing
7. Breathless
8. Downfall
9. Greed
10. Control
Bankrobber is a Metallic Hardcore band from Denver, Colorado. Actually, I think they were a band from Denver, Colorado. I really have no clue. This band just fell off the map... but that doesn't excuse the fact that their debut full length is good. "If God Is Love Then Hate Is Real" was released early 2012, but I feel like it got swept under the rug because of their lack of activity. Fans of bands like Palehorse, Integrity, and Terror will enjoy it nonetheless.

This speedy little split comes whipping at you by two more MA bands by the names of Fuming Mouth and Gatlin. Both have that really nice Death Metal influence that has been kicking my ass lately and they do it really well. You can download Fuming Mouth's tracks for free on their bandcamp, while Gatlin's are up for stream only right now. Still worth the listen, so check them out.

I've personally never heard anything like this before and it blew me away. If you're looking to try something new or to broaden your horizons, this is a great pace to start.
